Holy Grail: Serums for Hyperpigmentation

I was thinking about doing all serums at once, however it'll be extremely long, so I'm going to break them down for different things. This one will be all about hyperpigmentation, I'll have one for hydration, one for calming, one for retinoids, one for breakouts, and likely a few others too. Some serums will be on multiple posts because they can be used for multiple concerns. I've also listened to your feedback and added Canadian links, American links, and International links to this post, but also previous posts too. Some products may not be available for international shipping, however if they do become available or you know an authorized retailer, feel free to comment below and I'll add it. With all that being said, let's jump into the serums post!

1. Peter Thomas Roth Pro Strength Niacinamide Discoloration Treatment

Suitable Skin Type(s): All Skin Types

Why I love it: this is packed with ingredients that will help improve hyperpigmentation, but also has hydrating + calming ingredients in it to help with any possible irritation that could come with this. I like using this at nighttime, however it can be used in the daytime if you have products that may not play well with this

Key Ingredient(s): Niacinamide, Kojic Acid, Alpha Arbutin, Tranexamic Acid, Pentapeptide, Squalane, Resveratrol, and so much more!

2. The Ordinary Alpha-Arbutin + 2% HA Serum

Suitable Skin Type(s): All Skin Types

Why I love it: the ordinary always has very simple products at a great price point. Some people may not have the budget for the PTR one, or they have sensitivities to some other ingredients, which is completely fine. When those scenarios arise, I always suggest The Ordinary or other brands that are to follow next.

Key Ingredient(s): Alpha-Arbutin, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Lactic Acid

3. The Inkey List Alpha Arbutin

Suitable Skin Type(s): All Skin Types

Why I love it: the inkey list is another affordable brand with simple formulations that are effective just like TO. This is going to be a bit thicker of a serum, however don't let that scare you... It's fast absorbing and doesn't feel like anything is sitting on the skin

Key Ingredient(s): Alpha-Arbutin, Hyaluronic Acid, Squalane

4. Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Serum

Suitable Skin Type(s): All Skin Types

Why I love it: this is a more affordable version of the Skinceuitcals C E serum. I do enjoy the packaging of this one more, but Skinceuticals has tons of research behind it, proven results, and I think that justifies the price. If that serum is out of your budget range, this would be a great alternative.

Key Ingredient(s): 20% Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate

5. Rohto Mentholatum Melano CC Essence

Suitable Skin Type(s): All Skin Types

Why I love it: I prefer this for spot treating hyperpigmentation and post-inflammatory erythema, but I do not like using this all over my face because the texture is more oily rather than watery. I have gone through about 6 of these at the time of writing this blog post

Key Ingredient(s): Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Vitamin E

6. Good Molecules Daily Brightening Serum

Suitable Skin Type(s): All Skin Types

Why I love it: I did a whole review of this on my Instagram. It's an affordable serum that uses Arbutin to reduce hyperpigmentation. This was the first product that I used that had arbutin in it and is single-handedly the one product that got me hooked to the ingredient.

Key Ingredient(s): Arbutin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid

7. Skinceuticals C E Serum

Suitable Skin Type(s): All Skin Types

Why I love it: this is definitely a more expensive serum that won't be in everyone's budget range, however the results you get from it is what makes the price justified + the research that has been done as well. This is a well-known vitamin C serum, it's been around for years, and it's still one of the top serums.

Key Ingredient(s): 15% L-Ascorbic Acid, 1% Vitamin E, 0.5% Ferulic Acid
